This research aims to answer these hypotesis: (1) disturbance is a cummulative response of Bugis-Makassar society toward social economic imbalance beyond a consolidation of various social structure parameters (ethnic, religion, dan economic class); (2) mass mobilization by using social institution, either modern institutions (HMI/ Islamic Association of University Students, and SMPT/Senat of University Students) or traditonal institutions (sin institution/suffer humiliational institution); and (3) conflict resolution by using the institution to soften the disturbance, they are government institutions (civil and military), social organization (MUI, Bakom PKB, and Budi Luhur Social Foundation), and society figures.
The result of this research shows that the social and economic structure in Makassar society becomes to be consolidated or social "overlapping" sorting. The consolidation of social economy structure between BugisMakassar ethnic group and Chinese ethnic group can bee seen from effort scale aspect, economy sector, or economic activities based on spacial distribution. Chinese ethnic group dominates big-trade, formal sector, and economy activities in the centres of city. Conversely, Bugis-Makassar ethnic group takes in small trade, informal sector, and economc activities in the outskirts of city. The consolidation of social structure or social "overlapping" cleavage between Bugis-Makassar ethnic group and Chinese ethnic group influences the conflict intensity on both ethnic groups.
Conflict resolution can be categorized into three parts. First, the government should make policy supporting the increasing Bugis-Makassar ethnic group economy and other local ethnic groups in order to decreace social economic imbalance among ethnic groups. The government should also make
